This extremely large lathe sculpted wall hanging is made out of African Black Limba mounted on a slab of Ambrosia Maple. It is actually made from four pieces of Black Limba, each turned individually. I turned two of them identically then intermixed these two to make the large oval shape on the top half of the piece. The other two were turned in opposing patterns and each displayed opposite each other on the bottom half of the piece. Once they were turned, segmented and reassembled I mounted them onto the slab of Ambrosia maple, providing a nice contrast to the color of the Black Limba.
I have four basic goals that I strive to achieve with my work:
• Design and create pieces that complement the wood.
• Explore the concept of creating a sense of movement with an inanimate object.
• Design pieces in such a way as to visually “stretch” portions of the piece to appear either larger, smaller or a different shape that it actually is. (This applies primarily to my sculptural work and my wall hangings.)
• Be as ecologically responsible as possible with my woodwork. I use as much salvage as possible and much of my other material is grown specifically for commercial purposes.
It is 69” wide, 24” tall and 3” thick.
It is pre-hung with eye hooks and wire on the back.
This piece would look spectacular on the wall in your office, dining room, bedroom or the lobby of your business.
