This interesting piece was one of the very first wall hangings I ever made. It was inspired
by an accident in my woodshop. I was working with a piece on the lathe when it came
apart and sent pieces of wood ricocheting in various directions around the shop. Trust me,
that was a VERY exciting event!
The center is made of Walnut and is mounted on a piece of figured Paulonia. It was completely sculpted by me on my lathe.
I have four basic goals that I strive to achieve with my work:
• Design and create pieces that complement the wood.
• Explore the concept of creating a sense of movement with an inanimate object.
• Design pieces in such a way as to visually “stretch” portions of the piece to appear either larger, smaller or a different shape that it actually is. (This applies primarily to my sculptural work and my wall hangings.)
• Be as ecologically responsible as possible with my woodwork. I use as much salvage as possible and much of my other material is grown specifically for commercial purposes.
It is 33” tall, 25” wide and 2 5/8” thick.
It is pre-hung with eye hooks and wire on the back.
This piece would look spectacular on the wall in your office, dining room, bedroom or the lobby of your business.
