Say hello to "Greek Comedy". A turned and carved free standing sculpture. Both sides are designed, turned, textured and carved differently. So you turn this piece around to get a different impression. I call this "Greek Comedy" because it reminds me of the old masks representing the theater. I also left the appearance rough, to a certain extent, to give the idea that this was discovered at an archeological site. The "wings" reach forward on one side and drift back on the other. This gives it a larger impression from one side, while the other gives and appearance of floating away. It is made of Cherry, the base is Bubinga and it is supported on a steel post.

This was created on a wood lathe. The piece was sanded and a multi-step finishing process was applied. Then it was moved over to the bandsaw where the it was deconstructed and then finally reassembled in a completely new concept.

I have four basic goals that I strive to achieve with my work:
• Design and create pieces that complement the wood.
• Explore the concept of creating a sense of movement with an inanimate object.
• Design pieces in such a way as to visually “stretch” portions of the piece to appear either larger, smaller or a different shape that it actually is. (This applies primarily to my sculptural work and my wall hangings.)
• Be as ecologically responsible as possible with my woodwork. I use as much salvage as possible and much of my other material is grown specifically for commercial purposes.

All woods can have natural cracks and voids and these are not considered defects. It was hand sculpted on my lathe by me. Like any natural wood product, it should not be placed in direct sunlight for long periods.

Shipping says it takes 3-5 days to process. I am usually much quicker than that and often ship the next business day. I say 3-5 in case I am traveling out of town.
